Latest in lead up to the Kazakhstan Open

There is all to play for in the PMG promoted Kazakhstan Open; Gareth Maybin’s tremendous six shot victory in the Qingdao Golf Open, has catapulted him to the top of the Challenge Tour rankings heading into this weeks tournament. Maybin, David Horsey (both pictured) and Seve Benson currently inherit the top three spots and are separated by less than €9,000, setting up a thrilling climax to the European Challenge Tour season.

..the Kazakhstan Open retains its position as the Challenge Tour’s premier event with another tour record prize fund.

The race to be crowned the Order of Merit champion has never been so close and all eyes now turn to Nurtau Golf Club and the Kazakhstan Open.

Now in its fourth year the Kazakhstan Open retains its position as the Challenge Tour’s premier event with another tour record prize fund. The first placed cheque of €68,800 will guarantee that whoever lifts the winners trophy on Sunday afternoon, regardless of their position going into the tournament, will climb into the automatic qualifying positions for playing privileges on next years European Tour.

Special mention must go to England’s most successful amateur, 48 year old Gary Wolstenholme who this week will make his professional debut in Kazakhstan. Gary’s long and distinguished amateur career has included twice being crowned British Amateur champion. Gary also boasts six Walker Cup caps during which he has the impressive record of taking the scalps of Tiger Woods and Anthony Kim in singles matches. At this stage of his career it will be interesting to see how he fares amongst the big hitting young guns that dominate the Challenge Tour.
