The Exhibition generated substantial media interest
Over 250,000 visitors flocked to see the exhibition
Korean Eye: Moon Generation Exhibition finished this week to huge acclaim. Following 3 extensions to the show, which was initially due to run for just two weeks, over 250,000 visitors flocked to see the exhibition at the globally renowned Saatchi Gallery in London.
The exhibition was a first for the Saatchi Gallery bringing together a group of leading Korean contemporary artists and galleries.
"...It has been a huge privilege to have my work hanging alongside some of Korea’s modern greats.” Lee Rim, Korean Eye Artist 2009.
The rapidly developing Korean art scene had previously received little exposure outside Korea, however caused quite a stir on its arrival to London. It generated substantial media interest with articles in the Times and Telegraph as well generous presence in European and Asian press. The Saatchi website also saw visits to its website peak at 50m per day.
Rodman Primack, Chairman of Phillips de Pury & Company’s London says: “The Korean Eye Moon Generation Exhibition was the opportunity for us to bring quality works, fresh from unchartered areas and introduce these both to global collectors and the art scene generally.”
Standard Chartered acted as main sponsor to the Korean Eye Moon Generation Exhibition “Standard Chartered is very proud to have sponsored this exhibition, which has exceeded all expectations and successfully promoted Korean Contemporary artists in the international arena. This sits perfectly with our strategy to create New Possibilities for Korean artists and promote Korea overseas, via the Bank’s global network,” said Tim Miller, Director, People, Property & Assurance, Standard Chartered Bank and Chairman, Standard Chartered Korea.
The exhibition was well-timed for Korea just ahead of their “Visit Korea 2010-2012” campaign. “Korean Eye has done a great deal to promote Korea and Korean contemporary art overseas. Korea has a growing domestic modern art scene and Korean Eye has provided a fantastic platform to showcase this talent internationally.” Sonia Hong, Secretary General Visit Korea Committee.
The focus and clear priority behind the exhibition was to increase awareness of the huge pool of talent within Korea and allow the artist’s access to dealers, collectors and new markets. “Korean Eye has been an unbelievable opportunity for me to show my work to thousands of new people not just in London but to visitors of the Saatchi Gallery from across the globe. It has been a huge privilege to have my work hanging alongside some of Korea’s modern greats.” Lee Rim, Korean Eye Artist 2009.
The Founder of Korean Eye, David Ciclitira, spoke about his enthusiasm for the project: “There have been many hurdles to overcome in putting together a project of this magnitude, but has no point during this journey has my passion and appreciation of contemporary Korean art waned and the quality and vibrancy of the works has shone through to make this wonderful event such a success. I am very pleased to have been able to share these works with so many people and I thank the sponsors and supporters who have made this come to life. We are working with those sponsors to continue the legacy of Korean Eye over the next 3 years. This will culminate with a major show during the London 2012 Olympic & Para Olympic Games."
