Parallel Media Group ASIA
Parallel Media Group has been involved in Asia since 1995 when it launched professional golf in China with the first World Cup of Golf at the Mission Hills Resort.
Parallel Media Group promotes golf Tournaments in Asia which are joint-sanctioned by The European Tour (PGAET) and Ladies European Tour (LET), the Asia Tour, the Korean Professional Golfer’s Association (KPGA and the KLPGA) .
Parallel Media Group followed this with the promotion of the World Cup of Golf at the Mines Resort in Kuala Lumpur, in 1999 historically won by Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara.
Parallel Media Group launched the Malaysian Open, Singapore Masters and the Hong Kong Open in 2000 as part of the PGA European Tour calendar.
Established in 2003 as a joint venture company with local Malaysian investors, Parallel Media Asia is now the largest golf promoter in Asia.
Parallel Media Asia has promoted The Malaysian Open, The Singapore Masters, The Indonesia Open and The TCL Classic in China. Parallel Media Group conceived the PGA European Tour Event ‘The Singapore Masters’, bringing many new visitors to the country.
As part of the PGA European Tour, PMG currently promotes the Ballantine’s Championship and The UBS Hong Kong Open.
Parallel Media Group was instrumental in re-branding of The Hong Kong Open, resulting in the event being awarded the coveted ‘M Mark’ as one of only three sporting events in Hong Kong with the backing of local government. PMG is in its ninth year of promoting the historical tournament, which in November; The Open will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary.
As the first European Tour held in Korea, the Ballantine’s Championship held in March at the picturesque island of Jeju hosted an impressive cast of players including Korean favourite, KJ Choi, British Open Champion Padraig Harrington, Liang Wenchong, American-Korean star Anthony Kim and three time Majors runner-up Chris DiMarco and Graeme McDowell.
New Territories & Events
Parallel Media Group created the National Federal Golf Kazakhstan (NFGK) in 2004 and went on to stage the Kazakhstan Open in 2005 which has established itself as the premier event in the European Tour.
With Parallel Media Group’s history in supporting women’s golf, PMG Asia promoted two events starting in 2005: The Thailand Ladies Open and the Ladies Masters in Singapore.
Parallel Media Group manages the Binhai Masters, an international Ladies Golf event in Shanghai. PMG is also the promoter of, in partnership with JGolf and Sportizen, the new Ladies European Tour event due to take place in Korea in November, 2008.
Other sports
Parallel Media Group’s sports tourism activity in Asia extends beyond golf. PMG created the highly innovative Tour of China cycle race in 1995 as well as creating the Malaysia Challenge yacht race in 1997.
Parallel Media Asia was the promoter of the 5th leg of the A1 Grand Prix of Nations held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
