A successful finish for PMG in the 50th UBS Hong Kong Open

In the 50th Anniversary of the UBS Hong Kong Open which completed over the weekend, Taiwan’s Lin Wen Tang celebrated his title in a climatic finish and the Group finished with a series of renewed sponsorships including acquiring a new sponsor, UPS (United Parcel Services), and renewing its partnership with Emirates.

“We are carrying on undeterred in this economy in striving to maintain and add value to our brands and events,” commented PMG Chairman, David Ciclitira. 

 

UPS, the global transportation and logistics firm will be an official sponsor for the UBS Hong Kong Open through to 2010. 

 

At the end of its fourth year as the Open’s Official Airline, Emirates has renewed their contract with the Group for an additional three years.  The new three-year sponsorship deal continues Emirates’ hugely successful partnership with the tournament that began in 2005.

 

Edwin Lau, Emirates’ Vice President of Hong Kong and China, said: “We are very excited to be an integral part of the UBS Hong Kong Open – an excellent platform to connect with our customers and passengers. Sports sponsorship is an important component of our marketing strategy and our close association with the Open has helped enhance our brand awareness and business in the region.”

 

UPS and Emirates joined the following sponsors of the UBS Hong Kong Open: BMW, Hugo Boss, Ricoh, Rolex, Samsung, PCCW (the telecommunications giant of Hong Kong), Jebsen, Ecco, AIA, Korean Ginseng, Heineken, Tibet Water, Verizon and Ballantine’s.

 

This year’s Open was held at the Hong Kong Golf Club from November 20 – 23 and attracted top golf talent including last-year’s defending champion Miguel Angel Jiménez and former winners Colin Montgomerie, José María Olazábal and the legendary Bernhard Langer, and finally, six-time Major winner Nick Faldo. 

 

Tang narrowly defeated Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy in what was the first win by an Asian player in a decade.
